BCLC Launches a New Holiday Program to Honor Diversity

Embrace diversity, celebrate inclusion, and create a harmonious workplace with BCLC’s innovative holiday program, empowering employees to honor their personal and cultural traditions while fostering a sense of belonging for all

The Canadian Crown gambling corporation British Columbia Lottery Corporation has introduced a new scheme that lets staff members choose their holidays. The BCLC will permit its employees to replace up to six holidays with other days of the year under the new arrangement.


Employees will be able to plan their holidays around dates that are significant to them personally, culturally, or religiously thanks to the new scheme. The news reflects the BCLC’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion and aligns with British Columbia’s multiculturalism week.

Apart from giving its staff members the freedom to choose their own vacations, the BCLC will keep enacting inclusive policies that give them a sense of value and acceptance. The corporation aims to create a “safe, equitable, and barrier-free environment,” with the help of committed employee resource groups.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is the only occasion on which the substitution option will not be used, according to the BCLC. According to the corporation, all of its employees are required to celebrate this holiday since it is consistent with the message it is attempting to convey.

To put this in perspective, every year on September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, often called Orange Shirt Day, honors the history of the residential school system for Canadian Indians.

The BCLC Is Happy to Encourage Inclusivity

Chief People Officer Sandy Austin of the BCLC offered her thoughts on the latest adjustments. She emphasized that her firm acknowledges that there is no “one size fits all” solution when it comes to holidays. The gaming company decided to give its staff members more customisation when it came to their vacation days since it wished to encourage diversity.
